Hibberd Library

More than just books… Hibberd Library is a place to connect, learn, create and discover.

Our community library welcomes people of all ages and abilities, offering a wide range of books, eBooks, audiobooks, digital resources, free Wi-Fi, computers, local history resources and regular programs and activities for our community.

Hibberd Library is supported by the State Library of Queensland, with our collection accessed and supplied through Rural Libraries Queensland. This partnership gives our members access to our on-shelf collection as well as an extensive range of eResources and online collections.

From babies and toddlers through to school-aged children, adults and seniors, there’s always something happening at Hibberd Library. From First 5 Forever sessions and STEAM activities to school holiday programs, social groups and community events.

We’re proud to be a welcoming space where our community can learn, connect, get creative and enjoy a good book.

Free membership

Library membership is free for Weipa residents.
You can join by coming into the library (bring a form of photo ID), filling out a membership form(PDF, 70KB) or joining online!
A parent or guardian will need to sign if under 18

Computer access and printers

Children 12 years and under must be supervised by a parent/carer/guardian at all times when in the Hibberd Library.
The use of public computers is free and available to both members and non-members.
Free public wi-fi is available. Ask our library staff if you’re unsure how to access the wi-fi on your device.
Printing, photocopying and scanning are available at our library.

Borrowing & Returning

You can borrow up to 10 items (per card) at a time.
Visitors/ temporary members can borrow up to 4 items at a time.
Items can be borrowed for 28 days and can be renewed provided they have not been requested by someone else.
Books can also be returned to the after-hours 24/7 chute located left of the automatic doors.

Reserving items

You can reserve items in person at the library or online using the library catalogue

Visit the library catalogue to browse our collection or search for specific authors, items or topics
When you have found an item you want to reserve, select the title of the item and then select Place Reservation.
If you are not already logged in you will need to enter your library card number and password (contact the library if you are unsure of your Password/Pin).
Select OK.
You can change the pick-up location to your preferred library branch, then select Place Reservation to complete the reservation.
You will be notified once the reservation is ready to collect.

STEAM program

Join us for hands-on fun in our STEAM program (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math). Each session features exciting activities like building simple machines, experimenting with colours and chemistry, creating art with tech tools and more. Open to all age groups and abilities

Read fun and educational books for kids. Enjoy hundreds of books for early readers free with Library For All! Discover a curated library of high quality, culturally diverse children’s books to enjoy at home, school, or in your community. The LFA library targets beginner and primary school readers, with beautifully illustrated books across a range of themes.

Libby

Libby offers a range of accessibility, including changing text size, turning on dyslexic font, zooming in books and magazines, reducing colour and text variation, and using voice over on your device to read e-books aloud.

Borrow Box

Our largest collection of Audiobooks as well as a large selection of eBooks with a focus on Australian and children’s content. BorrowBox now features a selection of great eMagazine titles.

Story Box

Storytime, anytime! View stories by local authors and illustrators, being read aloud by fantastic Australian and New Zealand storytellers. Story Box Library gets kids excited about reading, inspires their imaginations and lets them have fun with stories while improving their language and literacy skills along the way.
