Nature, Adventure & Discovery

Lake Patricia and Lake McLeod - These two freshwater lakes are well known around town for their diverse range of birdlife. Lake Patricia also offers a well-equipped picnic area with BBQs, public toilets and a children’s playground.

Local Beaches – Gonbung Beach, located just past Evans Landing and Front Beach, located in front of the Weipa Caravan Park and Camping ground offer spectacular scenery for a sunset walk.

Sports and Recreation

Local recreation spots, such as the BBQ areas at Lake Patricia and Hibberd Park offer the place to catch up with family and friends.

If you are up for a game of lawn bowls, Weipa Bowls club offer four bowling greens as well as hire of equipment for a small fee.

The Carpentaria Golf Club features a 8 hole golf course.

History and Culture

Western Cape Cultural Centre - The Western Cape Cultural Centre is located at Evans Landing and provides local cultural information and breathtaking local artwork exhibits. The centre is open 10am-2pm Monday to Friday with free entry.

Cape York Collection – The Cape York Collection, located at the Hibberd Library offers an extensive collection of historical documents and artefacts from Weipa and across Cape York.

WWII Plane wreck – In 1944, two P-47D Thunderbolts force-landed on the beach near Duyfken Point during operations in Papa New Guinea. The remains of these planes can be located easily from the shoreline (on the left hand side).
