Weipa is the gateway to the western Cape York region offering visitors a selection of stunning beaches, wilderness adventures, fabulous fishing and rich cultural heritage. With no shortage of things to do in the area, Weipa offers the perfect base to explore the outdoors and everything our vibrant town has to offer.

Weipa is just over 800km from Cairns via the Peninsula Developmental Road (PDR) or a 1 hour, 20 minute flight via Qantaslink or Skytrans. The Weipa airport is located just 15 mins from the township and there are also several charter airlines servicing Weipa which are available for passenger and freight transport.
If you are traveling by road, it is a good idea to check the road conditions prior to traveling, especially during the wet season when heavy rain can cause it to close. Vehicles can also be sent to Weipa by sea via the Cairns to Weipa barge.

The Weipa township does not have an Alcohol Management Plan, however, they do exist throughout the Cape York communities. It’s important to understand these restrictions before you visit, as heavy fines may apply to breaches. For more information head here

Crocodiles inhabit the waterways in and around Weipa. It is important to maintain vigilant when around bodies of water. Any sightings of crocodiles, within the township of Weipa, should be reported to the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection. Report a Croc and BeCrocWise
